First we would like to thank all the fans that braved the Tacos and Tequila crowd to attend the races last weekend. We saw some new faces in the winner's circle along with all the regulars. Riley Rogers, who is only 14 years old, made her racing career start last Saturday night in her number 66 IMCA Sport Compact. This class could be one of our fastest growing classes.

Saturday July 10th was a night of four-peats or was it? Trevor Fitzgibbon IMCA Modified racer and Jason Horton VRA Dwarf Car driver and reigning Champion were both looking to win their fourth Main in a row. With 15 cars in each division it would become a long night for both Trevor and Jason. Trevor Fitzgibbon started fifth in his heat race and finished second to Troy Morris III. When the IMCA Main came around Trevor found himself starting eleventh and Troy was starting on the pole. Trevor drove so hard you could hear his engine hit the rev limiter on every lap, but at the end of 30 laps Trevor came up one position short, with Troy Morris III leading every lap for the IMCA Feature win.

With all the northern tracks shutting down last weekend because of the extreme heat, Ventura Raceway became the coolest place to race in California. Twenty-one IMCA Modifieds showed up and IMCA Sport Mods and IMCA Sport Compacts were introduced to Ventura for the first time. West Coast IMCA guru Paul Vetter was there to help with these new classes and add his flare to announcing all the IMCA classes. VRA Sprint Cars, Dwarf Cars and Hobby Stocks rounded out the program.

We now have two weeks of racing under our belt and things are starting to feel a little more normal. We had seven divisions of racers in the pits, four car classes and three motorcycles classes. VRA Sprint Cars along with Senior Sprints both had first time winners. Tom Stephens Sr. passed Mike Cook on lap seven and never looked back and went on to take his first VRA Senior Sprint Car Feature. Stephens has raced at Ventura Raceway for many decades and has been victorious in several divisions.

It’s good to be back racing after a fifteen month lay off. It was the 150th time USAC Midgets raced at Ventura Raceway and like always the Main Event was extremely exciting.
