Results 6-26-2021

First we must thank all the great spectators and the fabulous racers who turned out Saturday night June 26th. We were treated to some of the most exciting racing that we have seen in years.

We had 23 West Coast Sprint Cars in the pits headed by current points leader D.J. Johnson, Mr. Excitement Troy Rutherford, Austin Liggett, USAC-CRA regular Broady Roa and a host of terriffic sprint car drivers.

The first West Coast Sprint Car heat race could have been the craziest, and at the same time the most exciting, that we have seen in a very long time. Rick Hendrix and Tom Hendricks lined up on the front row and when the green flag dropped Tom went from the outside in one and came out in front in turn two. His number 14 sprinter got sideways to the left and then over corrected to the right now staring at the rear crash wall straight ahead. He bounced off the wall in front of the whole field, never getting hit and then joining the field at the rear. Tom’s car was bent too bad to compete the rest of the night.

After the yellow flag for Tom’s crash, heat race one was green again. When you think that it couldn’t be any more exciting, you couldn’t be more wrong. D.J. Johnson, Troy Rutherford and Broady Roa preceded to race each other like this race paid a million bucks. All three drivers threw slide jobs from the first lap to the last lap with D.J. Johnson taking the checkered flag. Hannah Mayhew won heat two and Tristan Guardino won heat three.

Troy Rutherford started on the pole so you knew he is going to be hard to beat. He lead the first 13 laps and in turn two Austin Liggett goes low and makes the pass and now leads the next two laps. Troy never gives up and on lap 17 passes Austin and has to fend off Liggett every lap until Tory takes the checkered for the win.

Two classes had three-peat winners. Jason Horton had to start in the back of the Main due to a poor performance in his heat race. He worked his way through the field and beat his mentor Mike Lewis to the finish. Trevor Fitzgibbon won his third in a row by passing Dave Phipps coming out of turn four for the win.

Eighteen WMR Midgets were in attendance lead by points leader David Prickett. David took the race lead until lap seven when Blake Bower took over. Prickett took the lead back on lap 12 and raced to the finish for the Feature win.

IMCA Mod Lites made their first appearance this season. Fifteen Mods from Arizona to Bakersfield showed up. Cade Lewis, Phil Barrow and A.J. Whisler won their heat races and A.J. Whisler also won the 20 lap Feature.

Kevin Kale won the NMRA T.Q. Midget Main with West Evans and Bruce Hiroshima winning their heat races.

Next race will be July 24th when we have VRA Sprint Cars, Senior Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, WMR Midgets, IMCA Sport Compacts and Motorcycles. The first Demolition Derby will be July 31st. For information check venturaraceway.com.
