Ventura Raceway returned to action on another very nice Saturday night, March 18.   Competition in each of the four classes competing was very close and hard fought from opening heat races to the final main events.

IMCA Modifieds action saw a very good race by a strong field of 16 Modifieds.  The race saw many new drivers here to take part in this nationwide series for V8 powered open wheel racers.  Luis Espinoza took the 20 lap feature win over opening night winner Chris Crompe, Josh Vogt, Austin Rodarte and 2016 track champion Jack Parker. The main event saw Espinoza, Crompe and Vogt put on a great three car battle for the lead in final laps, with Espinoza coming out on top at the checker. Three heat races were run with wins going to Aaron Rodarte in heat one, Andrew Greiman heat two and Jack Parker  heat three. After two races, Chris Crompe leads in the season long point battle by four points over Luis Espinoza and by six points over Jack Parker.

There were 23 VRA Dwarf Cars signed in for this week’s event Saturday night.  Johnny Conley took the win in their 20 lap main event over his dad, David Conley, Tom Stephens Jr., brother Tim Conley and Brad Curnel.  The race was another rough and tumble affair for these downsized racers with only seven cars finishing from the original twenty!  On track incidents and spins took out 13 cars by lap 12 of the feature.  The seven cars that finished the race then ran lap 12 to 20 without any major incident. Their three heat races went to Johnny Conley, Tim Conley and Trevor Fitzgibbon.  After two races in the new season, David Conley leads his son Tim Conley by 20 points and his other son Johnny Conley by 80 points in the battle to become the 2017 series champion.

VRA Hobby Stock action saw visiting driver Travis Avila score his first ever VRA feature win. He and his brother Ryan came down from Tulare to race with us Saturday night.  Travis ran a very good race to take the win over a fast closing Mike Stanford, Sam Garvin, Christina Garvin and Gary Garvin.  Tarkus Piper brought out the first crate motor Hobby Stock Saturday night.  He ran strong but had mechanical issues with the car and did not have a good main event finish. The eight cars ran two heat races with wins going to Travis Avila in heat one and Gary Garvin in heat two.  After two races, Christina Garvin leads the point race by 5 point over brother, Sam Garvin and by 10 points over her dad, Gary Garvin.

Focus Midgets made their 2017 Ventura Raceway debut with veteran driver Jet Davison taking the win over Mike Leach, Kyle Beilman, Brandon Biggs and Jessica Valentine in their 20 lap main event.  Davison led all twenty laps to take his win.  The Focus Midgets ran one heat race with the win going to Brandon Biggs.
