Results 9-9-2017

Fans at Ventura Raceway were witness to some exciting racing action Saturday night, September 9th, with a full program of racing that featured the third of four HAAS Automation VRA Dwarf Car Silver Cup Races. The night also saw action in VRA Senior Sprints, VRA Hobby Stocks and Focus Midgets.

In VRA Dwarf Cars, Kevin Calvo returned to action after two years off to take the win in the 20 lap HAAS Automation Silver Cup Race over a strong field of 19 cars! Calvo started on the pole and led all 20 laps of the feature to win the $500 first place check and the Silver Cup for race number three. Following Calvo across the line were Johnny Conley, Trevor Fitzgibbon, David Conley and Jason Horton. The night saw three heat races run with wins going to Jason Horton in heat one, Kody Cowan in heat two and Tom Morley in heat three. After twelve races in the 2017 season, Johnny Conley leads his dad, David Conley by 115 points in the season long point race.

VRA Senior Sprints also competed Saturday night. The ten cars in attendance ran two heat races with wins going to Danny Parrish in heat one and Chris Meredith in heat two. The 20 lap main event went to Rick Hendrix, who led all 20 laps of the feature. He was followed across the finish line by Russell Martin, Wally Pankratz, Steve Brown and Chris Meredith. After eight races in 2017, Wally Pankratz leads Steve Brown by 165 points and Chris Meredith by 170 points.

There were nine VRA Hobby Stocks present for the night’s action. Their two heat races went to Sam Garvin in heat one and Zachary Peterson in heat two. The 20 lap main event saw David Heurung return to racing after a year off due to a shoulder injury and take the 20 lap feature! Following Heurung to the finish were Zachary Peterson, Mike Stanford, Ernie Malone and point leader Sam Garvin. Sam Garvin now leads Mike Stanford by 110 points in the point race after eight races in 2017.

The Focus Midget Main Event saw Phil Schack take his first win at Ventura as he led all twenty laps in their 20 lap race. Following him across the line were Kyle Beilman, Mike Leach, and Jet Davison. Jet Davison took their one heat race. After eight Focus events in the 2017 season, Jet Davison leads Mike Leach by 165 points.

As a special added race, three TQ Midgets ran with the Focus Midgets. The winner of this exhibition race was Brandon Wiley over Bruce Hiroshima and Chris Thomas. Wiley also took their one heat race.

Next Saturday night, September 16th, we will have the return of USAC Midgets, as they race here in preparation for the 77th Turkey Night Grand Prix on November 23. Also racing that night will be VRA, Dwarf Cars, the final IMCA Modified race of 2017 and Focus Midgets.
