Results 10-7-2017

Ventura Raceway held their next event on a beautiful Saturday night, October 7th, with the running of the Civil War Series between Northern California and Southern California Lightning Sprints. Also racing that night were the VRA Dwarf Cars, Focus Midgets and VRA Senior Sprints.

The California Lightning Sprints made their fifth 2017 appearance with the running of the North South Civil War Series featuring cars of the BCRA Lightning Sprints and the California Lightning Sprints. They ran four heat races with wins going to Hunter Kinney in heat one, A J Bender in heat two, Craig Dillard in heat three and Cody Nigh in heat four. An eight car Dash For Position was run and the win went to Cody Nigh over Steve Brown. The 30 car field necessitated a semi to be run to set the 22 car main event field. Fourteen cars started the race with the win going to Jon Robertson over Pat Kelly, John Squire, Robb Pelmear, Dan Foster and Dale Gamer. These six cars then joined the sixteen transfer cars form the heat races to start their 25 lap main event. The main event saw Bobby Michnowicz take another Ventura win in a strong performance. He took the win in convincing fashion over Charlie Caraccilo, Bruce Douglas, Cody Nigh and Aiden Lange. Dakota Albright finished the race in sixth position and clinched the title in the Civil War Series for 2017.

VRA Dwarf Cars were back in action Saturday night with a smaller than usual field of 14 cars signed into the pits. Two heat races were run with wins going to Tommy Velasquez III and David Conley. Their 20 lap main was a good race that saw point leader Johnny Conley take the win from the pole position over Jason Horton, Tommy Velasquez III, Gage Cheek and Tim Conley. After fourteen races, Johnny Conley leads Jason Horton by 155 points and Tim Conley by 180 points with two races to go in their 2017 season.

VRA Senior Sprints were on hand to continue their season. Rick Hendrix took his second main event win in a row. He led the final four laps of the race after passing Greg Andrews on lap 16. Past champion Chris Meredith led the first 11 laps but was involved in a track incident while attempting to lap cars at the rear of the field. Following Hendrix across the line were Danny Parrish, Greg Andrews, Ed Schwarz and Greg Foster. There were two heat races run with wins going to Danny Parrish in heat one and Rick Hendrix in heat two. After nine races in 2017, Wally Pankratz leads Chris Meredith by 185 points in their championship battle.

The final class racing Saturday night was the VRA Focus Midgets. A small five car field ran one heat race with the win going to Zac Bogner. Their 20 lap main event went to Mike Leach over Kyle Beilman, point leader Jet Davison, Zac Bogner and Jessica Valentine. With one race to go in their season, Davison leads Leach by 125 points.

Ventura Raceway will be dark next Saturday night, October 14. We will return to action Saturday October 21, with a full program featuring VRA Sprint Cars, VRA Dwarf Cars, in their fourth and final race in the Silver Cup Series within a series. Also racing that night will be VRA Hobby Stocks and a non point IMCA Modified Race.
