Ventura Raceway continued its racing season Saturday night July 15, with six classes of racing action. Competition was very close and hard fought throughout the field of cars in each class.

In VRA 360 Sprints, 11 cars signed into the pits for the first VRA only event for them since May 20. The win in their 30 lap feature went to Kyle Smith over, Kenny Perkins, Guy Woodward, Charlie Butcher and Kyle Edwards. The VRA Sprints ran two heat races with wins going to Kyle Smith in heat one and Kenny Perkins in heat two. After five nights of competition in 2017, past champion Kyle Smith leads Charlie Butcher by 240 points.

VRA Senior Sprint action saw Wally Pankratz take his second main event in a row over a field of seven cars. He finished ahead of Chris Meredith, Ed Schwarz, Steve Brown and Greg Andrews. They ran one heat race with win going to Wally Pankratz. After six races in 2017, Wally Pankratz leads Ed Schwarz by 65 points and Steve Brown by 105 points.

There were 17 dwarf cars signed in for the VRA Dwarf Cars races Saturday night. Past Champion Johnny Conley took his second win in a row Saturday night over brother Tim Conley, Tommy Velasquez III, Tom Stephens Jr., and Gage Cheek in their 20 lap main event. The race was a fast and furious race that saw 12 of the seventeen starters finish on the lead lap. Their three heat races went to Tim Conley in heat one, Johnny Conley took heat two and Tom Stephens Jr. took heat three After 8 races this season, Johnny Conley leads the point race by 85 points over his dad David Conley and by 95 points over his brother Tim Conley.

IMCA Modified action saw a field of 9 cars take the green flag for their 20 lap feature. Justin Dunn took his second win of the season over Luis Espinoza, David Phipps, Loren DeArmond and Chuck Costabile. Austin Rodarte took heat race one and Aaron Rodarte took heat race two. After eight races in 2017 Luis Espinoza leads David Phipps by 39 points in their point race.

Thirteen VRA and USAC Focus Midgets took to the track Saturday night. They ran two heat races which were won by Max Guilford in heat one and Mike Leach in heat two. Their twenty lap main event went to past track champion Daniel Anderson over Jess Love IV, Adam Lemke, Max Guilford and Tom Patterson.

The final class competing Saturday night was the VRA Hobby Stocks. Gary Curtis came out of retirement to dominate the 20 lap feature taking the win over Mike Stanford, Gary Garvin, Christina Garvin and Sam Garvin. Curtis also took their one heat race. After 6 races. Sam Garvin holds the point lead by 70 points over his dad Gary Garvin.

Ventura Raceway will hold its next flat track event next week Saturday July 22, as it hosts the third annual A J Herrera Memorial race. This race will feature flat track racing in classes ranging from kids to AMA level Professional riders racing in singles and twins.
