Results for 6-10-2017

Ventura Raceway returned to action Saturday night June 10, with a full program of exciting racing that featured the second of four HAAS Automation VRA Dwarf Car Silver Cup Races. The night also saw action in VRA Senior Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, VRA Hobby Stocks and Focus Midgets.

In VRA Dwarf Cars, Tim Conley took the win in the 20 lap HAAS Automation Silver Cup Race #2 over a strong field of 16 cars. Conley started 12th in the 16 car field and ran his way to the top, passing Nick Velasquez, who led the first 17 laps, on lap 18 of the 20 lap Main Event to claim the $500 winner’s check and the Silver Cup. Following Conley and Velasquez across the line were D J Lebow, Korey Cowan, and David Conley. The night saw three heat races run with wins going to Jason Horton in heat one, David Conley in heat two and D J Lebow in heat three. A semi main was also run to fill the main event lineup after the heat races were completed. Four cars transferred from the semi main to fill the 16 car starting field. The transferring drivers were Tommy Velasquez III, Jeff Brink, Tommy Velasquez and Johnny Conley. After six races in the 2017 season, David Conley leads Tim Conley by 65 points in the season long point race.

In IMCA Modified action, Justin Dunn took his first ever win at Ventura Raceway by leading all 20 laps of the Main Event. Following him across the line were Luis Espinoza, Jack Parker, James Stowe and Scott Olsen. Jack Parker took the win in the one heat race that was run Saturday night. In the point race, Luis Espinoza leads Chris Crompe by 38 points and Dave Phipps by 43 points after seven races.

VRA Senior Sprints also competed Saturday night. The seven cars in attendance ran one heat race with the win going to Chris Meredith. The 20 lap main event went to Wally Pankratz who led 19 of the 20 laps run. He was followed across the finish line by Chris Meredith, Ed Schwarz, Steve Brown and Greg Andrews. After five races in 2017, Ed Schwarz leads Wally Pankratz by 5 points and Steve Brown by 50 points.

There were seven VRA Hobby Stocks present for the night’s action. Their one heat race went to Sam Garvin. The 20 lap main event saw Hobie Conway lead laps 1-8. Christina Garvin then led laps 9-12. Mike Stanford, who started 6th in the race then passed her to take the lead and the win. The race ended with Gary Garvin as the only other car finishing the race due to many on track incidents that took the other competitors out of the race. Sam Garvin now leads his dad Gary Garvin by 85 points in the point race after 5 races in 2017.

The Focus main event saw USAC veteran driver Jet Davison take the win in their 20 lap race. He led all 20 laps of the feature. Following him across the line were Mike Leach, Mike Leach Sr. and George Tuttle. After four Focus events in the 2017 season, Jet Davison leads Mike Leach by 200 points.

Next Saturday night June 17, we will have the AMA Speedway Qualifier. This is a special Speedway Bike only race. The following Saturday, June 24, we will have our next Flat Track/Speedway motorcycle race. We will be back to car racing on Saturday night July 8, with the USAC/VRA ARP Battle at the Beach race #2. Also racing that night will be California Lightning Sprints, Dwarf Cars and the USAC 600’s.
