Johnny Conley wins another VRA Dwarf Car Feature.
Charlie Caracillo wins his first California Lightning Sprint Main at Ventura.
Brody Fusion wins the Non-restricted 600 Midget Main.

Saturday night July 8th, saw a good car count at Ventura Raceway, as the USAC Western 360 Series in conjunction with VRA 360 Sprint Cars ran the second of four ARP Battle at the Beach Races of 2017. Also racing that night were the VRA Dwarf Cars, California Lightning Sprints and the USAC 600s racing in both restricted and non-wing divisions.
The USAC/VRA ARP Battle at the Beach drew twenty five 360 sprint cars to compete in this the second of four races in this series within a series to see who will be crowned King of the Beach as part of the November running of the Turkey Night Grand Prix. The winner of each of these four races wins a very special Battle at the Beach trophy. The night started off with Danny Sheridan topping qualifying with a run of 12.320 seconds. Jake Swanson took the win in the first heat race. Troy Rutherford took heat race two and Josh Lakatos took heat race three. A ten-car semi was run to fill the final seven spots in the feature lineup. The win went to Max Adams, followed by Austin Liggett, Rick Hendrix, Guy Woodward and Luis Espinoza. Twenty two cars were eligible to start the main event. The 30 lap main event was an exciting race as Langdon Cling led laps 1-3. Tristin Guardino then led laps 4-22 only to see Troy Rutherford get by and then lead lap23-28. A turn two incident took Rutherford out of the race allowing Jake Swanson to take the lead of the final two laps to take his first Battle at the Beach win in 2017. Following Swanson across the finish line were Austin Liggett, who came from 17 starting position, Max Adams, who came from 16 starting spot, Tristin Guardino and Cory Elliott. The race was marred by several on track incidents that took 10 of the starters out of the race. Max Adams third place finish places him 10 points out front of Jake Swanson after two ARP Battle at the Beach events. The next race in this series takes place on September 2, and the final event in the series will be a part of the 2017 Turkey Night Grand Prix in November.
USAC 600’s made their second appearance at Ventura Raceway, racing in two divisions, Restricted for young drivers and 600 non-wing for adult drivers. These cars proved to be fast and very competitive. In the restricted class, 11 year old Garth Kasiner took the 15 lap main event over Gauge Garcia and Dex Morris. The 600 non-wing cars had 10 cars in attendance. Their 20 lap main event went to 12 year old Brody Fuson over Jack Kassick and Jimmy Leal.
The California Lightning Sprints made their second 2017 appearance and the racing was very good. They ran three heat races with wins going to Bobby Michnowicz in heat one, Robb Pelmear in heat two and Eric Greco in heat three. The 25 lap main event saw Charlie Caracillo take his first ever Ventura Raceway win over Bruce Douglas, Bobby Michnowicz, Chris Dickey and Cody Nigh.
VRA Dwarf Cars were back in action Saturday night with 18 cars signed into the pits. Three heat races were run with wins going to Tommy Velasquez in heat one, Jason Horton in heat two, and Tom Stephens Jr., in heat three. Their 20 lap main was a good race that saw Johnny Conley take the win over Tommy Velasquez III, Trevor Fitzgibbon, Jason Horton and Tom Stephens Jr.
