Mike Rush wins the Pro Modern Open feature.
Ventura Raceway’s Flat Track/Speedway season continued Saturday night June 18, with a full program of motorcycle racing, featuring exciting flat track and speedway racing. With a field of over 100 riders signed into the pits, the fans in attendance saw some exciting motorcycle racing on a beautiful evening. Fifteen classes ranging from kids 65 and under to vintage and modern flat track and oval races for bikes all the way to open flat track professional racers going for a first place prize of $1,500, thanks to an additional $300 put on the winning amount by Barnett Clutches. Racing was once again fast and furious from the first to last event in the flat track classes. Speedway bike racing was also exciting as well for Division 1 through Vintage racers and the wild and crazy two rider sidecars.
In the Kid’s classes, Sage Cox took the win in the 65cc and under class over Ashton Carleton and Ty Travis and six other riders. Jake Mitchell took the win in the kids 85cc and under race over Conner Hickerson and Landen Jewett.
In the adult classes for amateur riders wins went to Conner Hickerson over Howdy Grabu in the flat track 125cc Pit Bike Class. In the Pit Bike 150cc and under class the win went to Clayton Williams over Roger Winger. In 500 cc Vintage racing the win went to Tom Horton over Josh Mills. 750 cc vintage racing saw Tom Horton win over Larry Earhart. The Hooligan Derby class was won by Chris McDougal over Bill Kee. The Open Vet Class for over 35 year olds went to James Davis over Paul Ott. Jim Ottele took the win in the Open Vet over 50 class over Micheal Vital. In the Vintage Brakeless/Handshift class the win went to Tom Horton over Jim Ottele. The 450cc Amateur Modern Open win went to John Tinsley over James Davis. The 250-350 Vintage win went to Tom Horton over Roger Winger. The 250cc Amateur Modern Open went to Noah Bush over Jake Anderson The 450-250 Motocross Flat Track saw the win go to Rob Skinner over Anatol Kozlowski and Chris Weinrich.
Steve Evans and Chris Ackerman brought out many top speedway riders to race the Ventura Oval. Luke Becker took the win in the Division One race. Malcolm Roe took the win in Vintage racing, Team number Two took the win in sidecars. The remainder of the races will have to be listed at a later date as the scorers left before giving us the final results in the support and junior classes. Fast Eddie Castro gave the fans a welcome surprise as he raced to a strong finish in the division one race after a comeback from his battle with cancer..
Nine professional riders took the green flag in their 20 lap main event going for the winners check of $1,500 thanks to an additional $300 put on the winning position by Barnett Clutches. Mike Rush took the 20 lap feature over Kayle Kolkman, James Ott, Julia Rankin and Clayton Williams. They ran two heat races with wins going to Kayle Kolkman and Mike Rush. . .
Next Saturday June 25, the AMA Speedway Nationals return to Ventura Raceway. This special event is one not to miss. Flat Track Motorcycles and Speedway will return to action at Ventura on Saturday July 23, with a full flat track and speedway program.
