Once again
the racing at Ventura Raceway was
outstanding in all divisions. Saturday
night proved this once again with close
hard fought racing action that saw the
VRA Sprint Car win go to a hard charging
Clark Templeman III over Brian
Camarillo. The win is Templeman's third
win of the season. With 20 cars in the
feature he had to come from his sixth
place starting position to take the win.
Following Templeman and Camarillo across
the line were Kyle Smith, Tom Hendricks
and Rick Hendrix, who was back in
competition at Ventura for the first
time since a hard accident last season.
There were three heat races run with
wins going to Clark Templeman in the
Extreme Muffler Heat One, Clif Warren in
the LRB Manufacturing Heat Two and Kyle
Smith in the BR Motorsports Heat Three.
Kyle Smith continues to lead in the
season point race by 160 over Templeman
after nine races.
VRA Senior Sprints were in action with
the 20 lap feature win going top Clif
Warren over Wally Pankratz Bruce
Douglass and Mike Cook. Warren's win was
hard fought as he took the lead from
Pankratz on lap 7 and went on to take
the win. Taking Senior heat race wins
were Victor Davis in the Spin Tech
Mufflers Heat One and Clif Warren in the
LRB Manufacturing Heat Two. Warren now
leads the point race by 30 over Davis.
VRA Dwarf Cars were on hand running in
two divisions, Seniors and Pros. In the
Seniors, the 20 lap feature win went to
Rick Lapka with Walter Boyd, Keith
Vondersaar, Bob Kauffman and Tom
Stephens Sr following him across the
finish line. They ran two heat races
with the wins going to Tom Stephens Sr
and Rick Lapka. In Pro action the main
event started 24 cars with the win going
to first time winner Craig Clement over
Cody Majors, Darren Brown, Mathew Hicks
and Curt Cook. They ran three heat races
with wins going to Randy Gordon, Mathew
Hicks and Hannah Mayhew. After last
Saturday's action, Ray Estrada leads
Luke Boles by 80 in Pro points and in
Senior points, Bill VanPraag leads by 50
over Tom Stephens Sr.
Cody Nigh took the win in VRA Go Karts
over Matt Jones, Ashley Hazelton, and
Steven Ito. Their two heat races went to
Cody Nigh and Ashley Hazelton. Since
moving to the bigger track the go kart
racing has been exciting and fast paced.
The final group racing Saturday night
was the VRA Focus Midget Class. The
twenty lap feature went to Cory Elliott
who took the lead from the pole and was
never headed. Following him across the
line were, Wally Pankratz, Cole Custer,
Trevor Cooper and Austin Blair. The
class ran one heat race with the win
going to Wally Pankratz. Wally Pankratz
continues to lead in the season point
race by 70 points over Parker Colston.
