The 2012
VRA Midget Season came to an end
Saturday night with Cody Swanson taking
his first VRA Midget Championship.
Swanson had to watch the finish of the
race from the sidelines as his midget
suffered mechanical problems causing him
to drop out at lap 17. He had sufficient
points to clinch the championship over
Greg Edenholm. The main event was won by
Bruce Douglass who had earlier won the
VRA Senior main event as well. Douglass
was followed to the checkered flag by
Rick Hendrix, who had led most of the
race, Ronnie Gardner, Randi Pankratz and
Greg Edenholm. Two heat races were held
with wins going to Cody Swanson in the
Sander Engineering Heat One and Bruce
Douglass in the Schroeder Racing
Products Heat Two.
VRA Senior Sprints were on hand with 7
cars in attendance. They ran one heat
race with the win going to Clif Warren.
The 20 lap feature was a hard fought win
by Bruce Douglass over Wally Pankratz,
Clif Warren, and Chris Meredith. After
Saturday night Warren holds a 35 point
lead over Davis with only next weeks
race to go in their 2012 season after
nine races.
VRA Dwarf Cars were on hand running in
two divisions, Seniors and Pros. In the
Seniors, the 20 lap feature win went to
Mike Lewis with George Calvo, Mike Neal,
Keith Vondersaar and George Sack Jr.
following him across the finish line.
They ran one heat race with the win
going to Tom Stephens Sr. In Pro action
the main event started 15 cars with the
win going to Curt Cook over Luke Boles,
Eric Moore, Randy Gordon and Shawn Egan.
They ran two heat races with wins going
to Eric Moore and Hannah Mayhew. After
last Saturday's action, Luke Boles leads
Ray Estrada in Pro points by 35 and Bill
VanPraag leads in Senior points by 95
over Tom Stephens Sr.
VRA Go Karts were on hand with heat race
wins going to Cody Nigh and Justin Raper.
The 20 lap main event on the big track
went to Mike Evans followed by Cody
Nigh, Dylan Ito, Kenny Byers Jr., and
Matt Jones.
VRA Mod Lights were on hand last week
with the 20 lap feature win going to
Mike Sweeney followed by Dave Dotson,
Kris Kornder, Rick Granger and Ricky
Lewis. Kris Kornder took their one 8 lap
heat race. Sweeney leads Dotson by 115
points.
The final groups racing Saturday night
were the VRA Kid's Classes. In VRA Mini
Dwarf Pistons, the 12 lap feature win
went to Blake Hendricks. Hendricks took
their one heat race. In VRA Mini Dwarf
Superchargers the 12 lap feature went to
Nick Velasquez. Velasquez took their
heat race win. VRA Junior Midgets ran
one heat race that went to point leader
Devin McCree.
Ventura Raceway now takes two weeks off
and returns to action on Saturday night
October 27.
