night October 27, saw 23 VRA 360 Sprint
Cars signed into the pits for another
night of close hard fought, exciting
racing action. Greg Alexander once again
dominated the night finishing second in
his heat and winning the 30 lap feature.
He took the lead from his pole position
starting spot and was never headed. He
was followed across the line by Brian
Camarillo, Don Gansen, Justin Kierce and
Jeremy Ellertson. This was his second
win in a row as he also won the
September 22 main event. There were
three heat races run with wins going to
Brian Camarillo in the Extreme Muffler
Heat One, Rick Hendrix in the LRB
Manufacturing Heat Two and Don Gansen in
the BR Motorsports Heat Three. Kyle
Smith continues to lead in the season
point race by 135 points over Brian
Camarillo, 205 points over Tom Hendricks
with only the All Coast Challenge Race
set for November 10 to go in the 2102
season.
VRA Senior Sprints crowned their 2012
Champion Saturday night as Clif Warren
finished second in the feature to past
champion Bruce Douglass. Douglass led
all 20 laps followed by Warren, Chris
Meredith, point runner up Victor Davis
and Ron Bach. The two heat races went to
Warren and Douglass. Warren's
championship is his first VRA title. He
finished 40 points ahead of Victor Davis
who tried his best to run him down in
the feature to no avail.
VRA Dwarf Cars were on hand running in
two divisions, Seniors and Pros. In the
Seniors, the 20 lap feature win went to
Bill VanPraag with Mike Neal, Mike
Lewis, Bob Kaufman and Tom Stephens Sr
following him across the finish line.
They ran one heat race with the win
going to Tom Stephens Sr. In Pro action
the main event started 14 cars with the
win going to Luke Boles over Johnny
Conley, Randy Gordon, Thomas Velasquez
and Curt Cook. They ran two heat races
with wins going to Curt Cook and Randy
Gordon.. After last Saturday's action,
Luke Boles leads in Pro points by 85
over Curt Cook and Bill VanPraag leads
in Senior points by 140 over Tom
Stephens Sr. with one race left on
November 10.
VRA sport Compacts ended their season
with an exiting night of racing.
Michaela Stanton took the win in the 20
lap feature over Jess Carlucci, Zachary
Peterson, Jeff Stanton and Mike
Stanford. Peterson had a night to
remember as car problems cursed him all
night long, nearly taking his chance to
take the Sport Compact Title. His team’s
hard work allowed him to squeak by Jess
Carlucci by 15 points and take his first
VRA Championship. Their two heat races
went to Eric Griffin and Mike Stanford.
VRA Mod Lights were on hand last week
with the 20 lap feature win going to
Mike Sweeney, who also clinched the 2012
VRA Mod Lite Championship, followed by
Dave Dotson, Ricky Lewis, Kris Kornder,
and Rick Granger. Dave Dotson took their
one 8 lap heat race.
It was a tough night for the VRA Quad
Open Class as the main event had to be
called after 4 laps of their 20 lap
feature after a nasty accident involving
Raygen Harris brought out the red flag.
She crashed heavily on the front
straight and was transported to the
hospital. Thankfully she is reported to
be in good condition with a broken
clavicle, cuts and bruises and a
concussion. The winner of their heat
race was Kyle Eurto. With one race to
go, on November 3, David Knight leads in
the points by 145 over Matt Williams.
The final groups racing Saturday night
were the VRA Kid's Classes. In VRA Mini
Dwarf Pistons, the 12 lap feature win
went to Kyleigh Forster followed by
Andrew Orlando, Zack Chavez, Lela
Brogdon and Blake Hendricks. Paige Minor
and Andrew Orlando took their two heat
races. In VRA Mini Dwarf Superchargers
the 12 lap feature went to Anthony
Balcazar over Nick Velasquez. Velasquez
took their heat race win. VRA Junior
Midgets ran one heat race that went to
Oliver Blades. Their 15 lap feature went
to Oliver Blades followed by point
leader and new 2012 VRA Champion Devin
McCree and Tommy Velasquez.
