Kruseman made it two wins in a row
at Ventura Raceway last Saturday
night as he took the 30 lap feature
over a field of top VRA competitors.
Kruseman won the USAC/CRA 410 race
on September 25 and put a 360 motor
in the car to race Saturday night.
He battled Brandon Thomson for many
laps early kin the race before he
pulled out to a good lead to take
his second VRA win of the season.
Troy Rutherford continued to
increase his point lead over his VRA
competitors as he races toward his
first VRA Championship with a strong
second place finish in the feature.
Following Kruseman and Rutherford
across the line in the feature were
Brody Roa, Brandon Thomson and Josh
Ford. Rutherford now holds a
commanding 575-point lead over Greg
Taylor and a 590-point lead over
Josh Ford with only three races to
go in the2010 season. With only 260
possible points per race available,
Rutherford only needs to come out of
the race on October 16 with a 565
point lead to clinch the
championship. There were 24 cars
signed into the pit Saturday night
so three heat races were run. Heat
race one went to Rick Hendrix. Heat
race two went to Rutherford and Greg
Taylor took heat race three. There
was one semi main with the win going
to Brian Camarillo.
VRS Senior Sprints put on another
good show with 19 cars taking the
green flag for their 20-lap feature.
When all was said and done, the win
went to Russell DeBlauw in his
number 55 sprinter. Following him to
the checker were Bruce Douglass,
Victor Davis, Wiley Miller and Bob
Alderman. Point leader Rob Kershaw
had a tough night as he and his
teammate Gary Howard got together in
turn one on lap 6 putting both cars
out of the race. Three heat races
were run with wins going to DeBlauw
in heat one, Howard in heat two and
Richard McCormick in heat three.
Even though Kershaw had a bad night
he holds a 280-point lead over
Douglass with one race in their
series to go in 2010.
VRA Pro Dwarf cars also competed
Saturday night. Two heat races were
run with Ray Estrada taking heat one
and Angel Figueroa taking heat two.
The 20-lap feature went to Lars
Wolfe who took the lead on lap two
and held off point leader Angel
Figueroa to take the win. Following
the top two across the line were
Bill VanPraag, Estrada and Thomas
Velasquez. With three races to go in
their season, Figueroa holds a
450-point lead over Estrada.
A small field of four USAC Young Gun
Focus Midgets was on hand to run one
heat race, which went to Tanner
Kershaw. He then went on to take the
15 lap feature, followed by Alex
Jacobson, Collin Henry and Ricky
Lewis.
In our kid’s class competition, the
feature win in the Junior Midget
class went to point leader Brennan
Rogers. Heat race wins in this class
went to Cody Majors and Rogers.
Rogers leads the point race over
Devin McCree. In VRA Mini Dwarf
Super Chargers, the heat race wins
went to Tommy Velasquez and Cameron
McCauley. The 12-lap feature win
went to Velasquez with Nick
Velasquez second. In Mini Dwarf
Pistons, the 12-lap feature win went
to Conner Wakim with Jake Aguilar
second. Heat race wins went to Logan
Rutherford and Devin Pierson.
Ventura Raceway takes next week off
so the Fairgrounds can hold the
annual Highland Games Festival. We
will return to action on October 16,
with a program that will feature VRA
360 Sprint Cars, USAC Midgets. Ford
Focus Midgets, Young Gun Midgets,
Pro Dwarf Cars and Go Karts.
