Ventura CA - June 26, 2010...Jimmy Crawford returned to Ventura Raceway Saturday night and showed that when the big bucks are up for the taking he is up for the task at hand. He started from the front row and then led all the way to the finish to take the second race in the 2010 All Coast Construction Challenge Series for VRA 360 Sprints. Crawford drove his Steve Gresham number 3x sprint hard all night taking the win over a stellar field of 360 sprint car racers that included Danny Faria Jr., Matt Mitchell, Gary Howard and all the top VRA drivers. Crawford led all 30 of the main event laps, but that does not speak to the great battles that went on inside the 23 car field as they battled to see who would come out at the top of the field at the checker. The race saw 19 of the cars on the lead lap at the checker. The race saw one flip when Matt Mitchell running second, flipped in turn three and four. He emerged uninjured but his strong challenge to Crawford ended at lap 12. The race ended with Crawford taking the glory and the $2,500 All Coast Challenge win followed by new dad Brent Camarillo, Josh Ford, Cody Kershaw, who came from 11th to 4th, and VRA series point leader Troy Rutherford. Ford’s third place finish keeps him out front in the three race series within a series All Coast Challenge that has its final race on October 23. Crawford moved into second place in this challenge point race. In the VRA series point race, Troy Rutherford stays out front followed by new second place point runner Greg Taylor who finished 6th Saturday night. Kevin Kierce fell to third in points after finishing 18th, leaving the track on lap 27.

The night saw 38 VRA 360 sprint Cars signed into the pits necessitating a five heat race format. The LRB Manufacturing Heat Race #1 went to Kevin Kierce, The Steve Watt Enterprises Heat # 2 went to Brent Camarillo, the Kaeding Performance Heat #3 went to Troy Rutherford, Fast Undercar Heat #4 went to Matt Mitchell and the Twister X Heat #5 went to Brian Camarillo. The format also called for two Semi Mains with wins going to Brandon Thomson in the ITI Performance Semi #1 and Gary Howard in Semi #2.

The race Saturday night was a great race and has set the stage for the final All Coast Challenge Race set for October 23, when the winner will take home a first place check for $3,500 and we will crown the 2010 All Coast Challenge Champion. Be sure to mark that date on your calendar as a race not to miss.

Saturday night also saw the VRA Pro Dwarf Cars in attendance. 19 cars took the green for their feature race. At the end is was Brent Stevens who took the win followed by Ray Estrada, Lars Wolfe, Michael Sweeney Jr. and Micheal Lewis. Three heat races were run with wins going to point leader Angel Figueroa, Ray Estrada and Tom Stephens Sr. The wild ride of the night went to Angel Figueroa who on lap one of the feature flipped into the turn four exit of the track. The car was damaged, but Figueroa was ok.

The fast IMCA Modifieds were also on hand Saturday night with 16 cars entered. There were two heat races with wins going to Larry Hood and Austin Rodarte. The 20 lap feature was a very fast and furious one with the two Rodarte brothers, Jack Parker and Larry Hood battling lap after lap. At the end, it was Hood passing Austin Rodarte to take the win. Austin Rodarte finished second with brother Aaron Rodarte third, Damon Redman fourth and Jack Parker fifth. Austin Rodarte holds a 9 point lead in thepoint race over Redman after 10 races in 2010.

VRA Sport Compacts returned to action after a nearly one month layoff. The night saw the 11 cars run two heat races with wins going to Brent Underwood and Ryan Changus. The 20 lap feature was a battle between Mike Frazier and Trevor Fitzgibbon for the first 15 laps until the two got together in turn four. The lead then went to Cody Greiman, driving his new number seven racer. He led to the end to claim the victory. Following him across the lone were Underwood, Fitzgibbon, Jason Marshall and Jess Carlucci. Fitzgibbon’s third place finish maintains his 145 point lead over Greiman in the year long point race.

Competition was once again at the highest level in our kid’s classes, Saturday night. In the Piston Class the main event win went to Devin Pierson who had to battle Ryan Butcher and Logan Rutherford to get the win. Ryan Butcher took the heat race win in this class. In Super Chargers, Ricky Lewis came back to take the win in their main event over Tommy Velasquez and Oliver Blades. In the Junior Midget Class, Heat race wins went to Austin Figueroa and Devin McCree. The 15 lap feature went to Figueroa folowed by McCree, Cody Majors, Tommy Velasquez and Joseph Magana. Point leader Brennan Rogers had a tough night falling out of both his heat and the man event with mechanical ills. He still holds a 125 point lead over Cody Majors after 6 races.

Ventura Raceway returns to action next weekend Saturday July 3, with a full program of racing featuring VRA 360 Sprints, Senior Sprints, Senior Dwarf Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Go Karts and a special event that will showcase the Mini Modifieds from Arizona.
