Ventura CA - June 19, 2010...On a beautiful Saturday night, Greg Taylor became the first driver in 2010 to get three VRA 360 sprint car wins. Taylor put his car out front after a second lap turn one accident took out the three leaders, Troy Rutherford, Kevin Kierce and Don Ganson. Both Kierce and Ganson were able to restart, but Rutherford’s car was damaged too severely to continue. As the field restarted, Taylor jumped out front and was never headed in the 30 lap feature event. The race was one that saw several other cars fall out due to mechanical woes. Justin Kierce, Austin Deblauw, Brandon Thomson, Luis Espinoza, Guy Woodward all fell out before mid race. Brent Camarillo ran another strong race coming from 17 to the top five before breaking on lap 22. Taylor’s win keeps him in third place in the point race behind Kirece and point leader Rutherford. Behind Taylor at the finish were Brian Camarillo, Rick Hendrix, Steve Conrad and Josh Ford. Despite falling out early, Rugtherford maintains a 210 point lead over Kierce who finished ninth after the early incident in the race. The night saw four heat races and one semi main. The LRB Manufacturing Heat Race #1 went to Cody Kershaw, The Steve Watt Enterprises Heat # 2 went to Brian Camarillo, the Kaeding Performance Heat #3 went to Troy Rutherford and the Fast Undercar Heat #4 went to Greg Taylor. The ITI Semi Main Event went to Brent Camarillo. The Sushi Fresh Hard Charger award went to Dakota Kershaw who moved up 13 positions in the race to finish sixth. In VRA Senior Sprint Car action, past IMCA Sprint Car Champion Gary Howard took the 20 lap feature over teammate Rob Kershaw. The two number 26 cars race hard to the finish reversing the June 5 main event finish that saw Kershaw take the win over Howard. Following Howard and Kershaw to the line were Jesse Denome, Russell Deblauw, and Jeff Culver. Three heat races and one semi were run with wins in the heats going to Howard in the LRB Heat one, Denome in the Maxwell Industries heat two and Bruce Douglass in the Fast Undercar heat three. Due to a large car turnout a semi main event was run with the win going to Danny Miller. Rob Kershaw’s second place finish keeps him 165 points ahead od Douglass in the season long point race.

IMCA Modifieds ran another great 20 lap main event that saw Aaron Rodarte take his first ever IMCA feature win over brother and point leader Austin Rodarte. The race came down to the last lap and Aaron nosed out Austin by an eyelash. Following the brothers across the line were Tom Topping, Rob Green and Frank Woodward. Heat race wins on the night went to Aaron Rodarte and Dennis Eckert. Going into the night Damon Redman had held the point lead but he fell out on lap 3 relinquishing the point lead to 2009 series champ Austin Rodarte. Rodarte now leads Redman by 7points.

In VRA Senior Dwarf Car racing Kevin Alverson took the 20 lap feature over Kent Benson., George Calvo, Mark Davis and Mike Neal. There were two heats run with wins going to Keith Koslov and Benson. After the night’s racing, George Calvo leads the point’s race by 65 points over Kent Benson.

The last group racing Saturday night was our VRA Go Karts. There were 19 karts in the main event that saw George Ito take the win over point leader Richard Renken, Ken Ito, David Pankratz and Kyle Park. Three heats were run with wins going to Pankratz, Ito, and Tyler Stover.

Racing returns to action next week June 26 with the second All Coast Challenge races for VRA Sprints. This race will pay $2,500 to the winner. Also on the card that night will be Pro Dwarf Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Sport Compacts and our lid’s classes.
